Future Skills

AI, robotics and computational thinking, from the curriculum

Every school says future-ready. Here is precisely what EKIS teaches, and on whose authority.

The claim, made checkable

The CBSE has introduced Computational Thinking & Artificial Intelligence as a curriculum strand for Grades 3–8 — the national board's own framework, landing on exactly the grades EKIS teaches today.

EKIS teaches it as designed: unplugged computational thinking first — patterns, logic, decomposition, often without a screen — then age-appropriate coding and AI concepts in the AI & Robotics lab.

Why this is different from 'smart classrooms'

Kerala already has screens

Public schools across Kerala have had hi-tech classrooms since 2020. Hardware is not a differentiator here — a taught curriculum is.

A national curriculum, cited

EKIS follows the CBSE's Computational Thinking & AI strand for Grades 3–8 (CBSE curriculum circulars, 2026-27 academic session).

A real lab, used weekly

The AI & Robotics lab is part of the timetable — children build and test, not watch demonstrations. How often each grade is in the lab is confirmed with the school at admission.

Teachers trained for it

Training for this strand is recorded internally and published here once those records are cleared for release.

What children actually do

EKIS students working on laptops in class, and at desktop computers in the school computer lab
  • KG–Grade 2: pattern play, sequencing, sorting — computational thinking without computers
  • Grade 3 up: the CBSE CT&AI strand — logic, block coding, data and 'how machines learn', age by age
  • Robotics kits: build, program, test, improve — teamwork included
  • Digital citizenship and healthy screen habits, taught explicitly
